Summary

World War II brings together six remarkable young flight nurses, who face the challenges of war and its many heartbreaks and victories as unsung heroes, in this inspiring novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Danielle Steel。

Audrey Parker's life changes forever when Pearl Harbor is attacked on December 7, 1941。 Her brother, a talented young Navy pilot, had been stationed there, poised to fulfill their late father's distinguished legacy。 Fresh out of nursing school with a passion and a born gift for helping others, both Audrey and her friend Lizzie suddenly find their nation on the brink of war。 Driven to do whatever they can to serve, they enlist in the Army and embark on a new adventure as flight nurses。

Risking their lives on perilous missions, they join the elite Medical Air Evacuation Transport Squadron and fly into enemy territory almost daily to rescue wounded soldiers from the battlefield。 Audrey and Lizzie make enormous sacrifices to save lives alongside an extraordinary group of nurses: Alex, who longs to make a difference in the world; Louise, a bright mind who faced racial prejudice growing up inthe South; Pru, a selfless leader with a heart of gold; and Emma, whose confidence and grit push her to put everything on the line for her patients。

Even knowing they will not achieve any rank and will receive little pay for their efforts, the "Flying Angels" will give their all in the fight for freedom。 They serve as bravely and tirelessly as the men they rescue on the front lines, in daring airlifts, and are eternally bound by their loyalty to one another。 Danielle Steel presents a sweeping, stunning tribute to these incredibly courageous women, inspiring symbols of bravery and valor。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 3 stars just because I prefer a bit more dialogue then what this book contained。 It had more descriptions, which is ok and it helped you gain an understanding of what these women went through。I did my own research about flying nurses while reading this book。 It really got me wondering about these courageous women。 Logically I knew some of them would die, their jobs were dangerous, but I was so upset when 2 of the characters were killed in action。

I really enjoyed this historical fiction about the brave nurses in ww2。

Loved this book。 It is based on WWII。 Some parts were sad but it is a good read。

Feels like a beach read despite the heavy topic (maybe because of the writing? It’s really easy to read in a good way which you would expect from a book on WW2)。 Loved the characters and learning about their experiences

One of my favorites and I have read most all of hers。

Good story。 Liked the characters but wanted more at the end。 Wanted more as where are the survivors now。 Easy to read, read in 2 sittings。 Typical Danielle Steel。

What a lovely and intriguing WWII historical fiction is a quick read。 Women saving men from the front lines and helping others and facing many adversities makes it hard to put the book down。 Not as romantic or as steamy as I thought, but a wonderful storyline。

I really liked this book。 I’m a fan of historical fiction and this book and its memorable characters is a great example。 The story is about feminism pilots who fly to the front lines to evacuate wounded soldiers。 It’s dangerous and frightening, but the Medical Air Evacuation Transport Squadron goes behind enemy lines so the wounded can be rescued。 4 stars。Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book。 Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own。

Another great book by Danielle SteelThe book was about military nurses during World War II。 The nurses in the book worked as medical transport nurses stationed in England。 They went to Europe to pick up wounded troops that needed quickly transported back to England。 The book focuses on 4 nurses from the United States and 2 from England。 We learn about their families and their lives。 I loved the plot and storyline。 The characters and their stories were what Danielle Steel does best。 She weaves he Another great book by Danielle SteelThe book was about military nurses during World War II。 The nurses in the book worked as medical transport nurses stationed in England。 They went to Europe to pick up wounded troops that needed quickly transported back to England。 The book focuses on 4 nurses from the United States and 2 from England。 We learn about their families and their lives。 I loved the plot and storyline。 The characters and their stories were what Danielle Steel does best。 She weaves her magical spell and talent for another great book。 。。。more

I needed a short audiobook so picked this one as one。 The story was okay。 I read a lot of WWII fiction, but haven't read anything about the Flying Angels (nurses who worked on evacuating injured soldiers)。 However, the writing style makes me feel like I'm 5 because it beats everything into the ground。 Also, why was this book narrated by a male when 90% of the characters are women? It felt patronizing。 The voice I liked him doing the most was the Frenchman in the Resistance, but everything else w I needed a short audiobook so picked this one as one。 The story was okay。 I read a lot of WWII fiction, but haven't read anything about the Flying Angels (nurses who worked on evacuating injured soldiers)。 However, the writing style makes me feel like I'm 5 because it beats everything into the ground。 Also, why was this book narrated by a male when 90% of the characters are women? As much as I love historical fiction, I can only give this book 3 stars。 Danielle Steel wrote it, after all。 Her character development was only so so。 The story, of course, was amazing… But… Well, I will say this: her book makes me want to read another, a BETTER historical fiction book about this phase of history。

I thoroughly enjoyed this book。 It reminded me of another book I read in the past, I think the title was Come Fly With Me, but it was about Pan Am stewardesses who worked taking care of injured soldiers out of war zones and not ones that had to be carried on cots。 I found it easy to follow the lives of the six nurses because of their diverse backgrounds and training。 The friendships they formed were very interesting as well。 One thing that was very intriguing was the difference in how the one bl I thoroughly enjoyed this book。 It reminded me of another book I read in the past, I think the title was Come Fly With Me, but it was about Pan Am stewardesses who worked taking care of injured soldiers out of war zones and not ones that had to be carried on cots。 I found it easy to follow the lives of the six nurses because of their diverse backgrounds and training。 The friendships they formed were very interesting as well。 One thing that was very intriguing was the difference in how the one black nurse was perceived in Europe compared to her acceptance in the United States。I read this book in two sittings because it was hard to put down。 I don’t think I’ve read any other books by Danielle Steel, but find her style easy to read。 。。。more

I loved the book and the period of time。 However, I think 3 main characters would have been enough。 At times, I had to go back and reread because I forgot where the character came from。 But, I enjoyed reading about the Flying Angels and their contribution to the war efforts。 I had not heard of the Flying Angels before this book and I have read a lot of WW2 books of fiction。 This book was well written and interesting。

I am not a big Danielle Steel fan。 This was not her typical and me being a nurse it caught my intrest。

Claire

Beautiful idea for a book but wasn’t enough detail or character development for me。

A good way to learn about a bit of WWII history you know nothing about。 Not really technical, but a good story about people doing something that really happened。

Beautiful as always Thoroughly enjoyed this book like always。 I'm so disappointed when I've finished that I get really eager for the next。Friendships love and loss all tangled together within words beautifully written Beautiful as always Thoroughly enjoyed this book like always。 I'm so disappointed when I've finished that I get really eager for the next。Friendships love and loss all tangled together within words beautifully written 。。。more

I expected more to of this book。 Mostly feel goods of everyone getting along during war。 The “tragedies” were glossed over。

This novel follows the lives of a few US and British flight nurses in the Medical Air Evacuation Squadron in WWII。 Very good characters

I have never read Danielle Steele before and considering her popularity, I was expecting something good。 I can't figure out what people like about her。 I don't even think she could get a job writing for Hallmark。 The writing was repetitive and boring, especially at the beginning when she would make a point and then find 10 different ways to repeat it。The story was about flying nurses in WW2。 Steele got a number of the details right。 In real life, they lost very few patients on the flights。 But I I have never read Danielle Steele before and considering her popularity, I was expecting something good。 I can't figure out what people like about her。 I don't even think she could get a job writing for Hallmark。 The writing was repetitive and boring, especially at the beginning when she would make a point and then find 10 different ways to repeat it。The story was about flying nurses in WW2。 Steele got a number of the details right。 In real life, they lost very few patients on the flights。 But I was really confused because in the story, they were making all these flights from England to pick up wounded soldiers near the front lines。 It said some of the flights were only 80 miles。 Then after a year or so of doing this, there was D-Day。 So, where had they been flying before? Ireland? That part made no sense but I will ignore that。Some of the characters die and of course, a number of the main characters find nice guys that they will marry after the war。 I don't mind that。 I don't mind a tear jerker or romance from time to time, but I would like it to be well written。 This was like something written by a middle schooler or high schooler。 The one thing I appreciated was learning about an aspect of history that I didn't know previously。 。。。more

I don't normally read Danielle Steel but I happened upon this novel and found the blurb interesting。 A beautifully written and informative historical fiction on the role of women flying nurses in the second world war。 I enjoy reading women's roles in historical fiction showing that we have always been intelligent, and brave and of incredible value。 I don't normally read Danielle Steel but I happened upon this novel and found the blurb interesting。 A beautifully written and informative historical fiction on the role of women flying nurses in the second world war。 I enjoy reading women's roles in historical fiction showing that we have always been intelligent, and brave and of incredible value。 。。。more

3。5 stars。 My first book by Danielle Steel。 I liked it from the beginning but as I kept reading my interest faded。 The story jumped from character to character without rhyme or reason。 Also felt repetitive with things。 Overall not bad, just a bit jumbled in plot line and not my favorite writing style to read。

A quick read and superficial look at the role of the flying angels - nurses in WWII who flew injured soldiers from the battlefield and treated them along the way。 I would have liked it to go into more depth and focus on the role of the nurses rather than their love lives。

Joanne

Fabulous book。 Excellent writing and I couldn’t put it down。 Thank you DS
